The TAAD is a brief structured interview designed to identify current alcohol and drug problems. This 10-minute assessment tool covers all DSM-IV-TR criteria for substance dependence and abuse. It offers high internal reliability for dependence (over .90) and abuse (over .80). The TAAD produces alcohol and drug dependence profiles similar to those of more time intensive instruments.

A technician or paraprofessional can administer the TAAD for interpretation by a qualified professional. A scoring summary is incorporated into each instrument and can be completed in 2-3 minutes.

Substance Use Disorder Diagnostic Schedule-IV (SUDDS)


The SUDDS-IV™ is a comprehensive interview that provides documentation of substance specific dependence and abuse diagnoses based on the DSM-IV-TR.

This 35-to 45-minute interview covers both current and lifetime indications of abuse and dependence by substance type. It also screens for current and past indications of depression and anxiety disorders.

Reliability coefficients for substance abuse range from .85 to .93. Internal consistency reliability coefficients for dependence on individual substances range from .90 to .98.

This instrument provides information compatible with the ASAM PPC-2R for treatment planning and placement. Scoring can be completed in five minutes.

Comprehensive Addictions And Psychological Evaluation (CAAPE)


The CAAPE™ is a comprehensive interview for identifying co-occurring conditions among adults in the context of a 35 to 45-minute interview. It covers seven AXIS I and six AXIS II conditions in addition to detailed documentation of substance dependence and abuse for each substance category of the DSM-IV-TR.

The pragmatic clinical approach of the CAAPE™ focuses on the most common conditions and those likely to complicate recovery from addictions.

The interview provides key information compatible with the ASAM PPC-2R for treatment planning and placement.

Completion time for respondents is typically 15-20 minutes. Instrument scoring can be completed in about five minutes.

Practical Adolescent Dual Diagnostic Interview (PADDI)


The PADDI is a comprehensive interview for identifying co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders among adolescents. This interview enables both addiction and mental health professionals to document problems within their areas of expertise and make focused referrals for conditions outside their domain of practice.

This instrument provides key information compatible with the ASAM PPC-2R for treatment planning and placement. Internal consistency reliability coefficients range from .71 for conduct disorder to .92 for major depression. Coefficients for the majority of conditions exceed .85.

The PADDI covers symptoms of common affective and anxiety disorders including indications of major depression, mania, PTSD, panic attacks and phobias. It also explores dangerousness to self or others including history of suicide attempts/gestures and examines physical, sexual and emotional victimization.
